A National Conference on Inspiring Excellence in Samhita & Siddhanta
Samhita Avabodhini – A National Conference on Inspiring Excellence in Samhita & Siddhanta, was organised by the Department of Samhita & Siddhanta of our Institution in commemoration of the 111th Jayanthi Celebration of His Holiness Jagadguru Rajagurutilaka Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji on 11th September 2026.
The conference was formally inaugurated in the presence of distinguished dignitaries. The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr. Sharath Chandra Swamiji of Kundur Mutt, Mysuru, and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Anjaneya Murthy, Retired Joint Director, Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of Karnataka. The Presidential Address was delivered by Sri R. Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, who encouraged the participants to pursue scholarly excellence rooted in the classical traditions of Ayurveda. Dr. Sarbeswar Kar, Principal & Medical Superintendent, presented the opening remarks and emphasised the importance of preserving classical Ayurvedic knowledge.
Dr. Santoshkumar B. Utlaskar, Organising Secretary, presented a brief bird's-eye view of Samhita Avabodhini, highlighting its vision, objectives, academic focus and significance in promoting deeper engagement with Samhita and Siddhanta.
The academic programme focused on important dimensions of Samhita and Siddhanta and their relevance to contemporary learning and practice. The scientific deliberations began with the Keynote Address by Dr. J. R. Joshi, followed by four academic sessions: Dr. Vinodkumar M. V. spoke on “Relevance of Padartha Concepts in Learning & Practice”; Dr. Kirathamoorthy P. P. addressed “From Shastra to Chikitsa: Applying Fundamental Principles of Ayurveda”; Dr. K. Savitha R. Shenoy spoke on “Understanding the Scientific Approach of Vimana Sthana”; and Dr. Pankaj Pathak addressed “Santarpana and Apatarpana Chikitsa: Classical Principles for Lifestyle Disorders.” The academic sessions were followed by a Panel Discussion, which further encouraged exchange of views and academic interaction.
As part of the conference, Oral Scientific Paper Presentations for PG Scholars were organised online on 3rd September 2026 on the theme “Samhita to Practice: Contemporary Approaches to Understanding and Applying Ayurvedic Knowledge.” A total of 39 presentations were received, comprising 38 PG and 1 PhD presentation, chaired by Dr. Subash Chandra Bose. M and Dr. Savita Hiremath, with Dr. Aiyanna. P. P and Dr. Visal. S. Kumar.
For UG Students, a Poster Presentation was conducted online on 3rd September 2026 on the theme “My Vision for Learning Samhita and Siddhanta.” A total of 45 undergraduate students participated, encouraging students to express their ideas creatively and explore innovative approaches to learning Samhita and Siddhanta. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Shelly Divyadarshan, Dr. Chaitra and Dr. Channabasavva. D. Totad.
In the Valedictory Ceremony, Dr. Santoshkumar B. Utlaskar presented the conference report. Delegates shared positive feedback, appreciating the academic quality, interactive discussions and excellent organisation of the conference. The gathering was further enriched by the inspiring addresses of Dr. C. P. Madhu, Director, JSS Hospital, Mysuru; Dr. N. V. Krishnamurthy, Principal, Maharaja Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences; Dr. Sarbeswar Kar, Principal, JSS Ayurveda Medical College; and Dr. Shivaprasad Hudeda, Vice Principal, JSS Ayurveda Medical College. The winners of the scientific paper and poster presentation competitions were felicitated.
The conference created a vibrant academic environment and encouraged participants to view Samhita and Siddhanta from both classical and contemporary perspectives, reinforcing the importance of Samhita and Siddhanta as foundational disciplines in Ayurveda education. It received an overwhelming response, with more than 480 delegates from different institutions across the country, including Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, PhD scholars, Faculty, Researchers and Practitioners, making the conference truly national in its reach and participation.
