TRAINING PROGRAM ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND SCIENTIFIC WRITING
Our Institution hosted a 3-day training program on "Research Methodology and Scientific Writing" from November 10th to 12th, 2025 which was sponsored by Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, New Delhi and attended by 30 participant Staff of various colleges across India.
In the inaugural function, Dr P. Sudhakar Reddy, Nodal Officer, extended a warm welcome to the guests and delegates. Dr. B. Ravishankar, former Head, Pharmacology Laboratory, IPGTRA, Jamnagar, Gujarat, delivered the inaugural address, emphasising the significance of research in Ayurveda and updates on research initiatives in the AYUSH department. He encouraged young researchers to pursue rigorous research in Ayurveda with integration.
Dr. Banmali Das, Research Officer, CARI, Bhuvaneswar, provided an overview of the research activities of the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI). Dr. Shivaprasad Huded, Vice Principal, highlighted the importance of research in Ayurveda, while Dr Jeetika Duggal, Project Consultant, RAV, spoke about the RAV training programs and activities of the Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB).
The three-day program featured expert sessions and interactive discussions on various topics, including:
Day 1 (10-11-2025)
- Experimental study designs for traditional systems of medicine: Dr. B. Ravishankar discussed the basic concepts of experimental study designs for traditional systems of medicine.
- Literature review in research: Dr Banmali Das explained the types and importance of literature research in Ayurveda.
- Extraoral receptors and epigenetics: Dr B. Ravishankar discussed the importance of extraoral receptors and epigenetics in Ayurvedic drug research.
- Sampling methods: Dr Sandesh Kumar Shetty, Associate Professor, SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi, provided a detailed account of different sampling methods with their advantages and disadvantages.
Day 2 (11.11.2025)
- Collection and presentation of data: Dr Sandesh Kumar Shetty discussed the different types of collection methods and data presentation techniques.
- Integrity in research and publication: Dr. Banamali Das emphasised the importance of integrity in research and publication.
- Proposal/grant writing: Dr Remya E, Research Officer, CARI, Bhuvaneswar, provided guidelines on writing a good protocol for research funding agencies.
- Medical statistics and questionnaire validation: Dr Sandesh Kumar Shetty gave an overview of the sources, types, and importance of statistics in Ayurveda research.
Day 3 (12.11.2025)
- Research reporting guidelines: Dr Remya E discussed the different scientific guidelines for reporting trials.
- Research problems: Dr Umesh C, Assistant Professor of Ayurveda, Department of Integrative Medicine, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, covered different research problems with Ayurvedic examples. Types and content of the research problem, sources of problems for investigations. He has given an overview of research problems with group activity.
The valedictory function was held on November 12th, 2025, with Sri R Mahesh, Director, Medical Education Division, JSS MVP, Mysuru, as the chief guest. He emphasised the need for research in Ayurveda and encouraged faculty members to conduct research apart from teaching. Dr Sucharitha, RAV Guru, Bengaluru, highlighted the importance of research in Ayurveda and provided an overview of RAV GURU activities.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to the delegates, and Dr. Sarbeswar Kar, Principal, JSS Ayurveda Medical College, delivered the presidential address. Dr. Poornima Jalawadi rendered the vote of thanks.
The entire program was supervised by Dr Jeetika Duggal, Project Consultant, and Mr Aakash Mahindroo, IT Consultant, RAV, New Delhi.
