The Department of PG studies in Kayachikitsa of JSS Ayurveda Medical College- Mysuru Organized ‘NIYATI’- Care for quality of life- A Conclave on Integrated approach to Cancer’. Padmashree Vaidya Balendu Prakash, Ayurveda Physician, Padaav-Speciality, Ayurvedic Treatment Centre, Founder, Vaidya Chandra Prakash Cancer Research Foundation (VCPCRF), Dehradun was the chief resource person. Renowned experts in the field of Oncology from different cancer hospitals of Mysuru were present as expertise to share their opinion in this regard, on Wednesday, 29-03-2023
Program was started by invoking the blessings of God by Final year BAMS Students.Principal Dr. Sarbeswar Kar welcomed the guests and the gathering.
Session began with the presentation by Dr.Beena M.D Associate Professor, Department of PG Studies in Kayachikitsa and Consultant of Cancer Clinic in JSS Ayurveda Hospital- Mysuru, in which she highlighted regarding the Ayurvedic concept and treatment principles of Cancer including research studies and few case studies done in JSS Ayurveda Hospital since 2018. The research has shown good improvement in quality of life of the cancer patients in different stages, in reducing the side effects of chemo and radiotherapy and also in extending the life expectancy. She also emphasized the need for integrative approach in extending the best care to the cancer patients under one umbrella.
Padmashree Awardee, Vaidya Balendu Prakash,the renowned Ayurveda Physician, having decades of experience in treating different cancers with Ayurvedic principles successfully, the chief resource person for the conclave delivered an extensive presentation on “Approach of Pancreatic Cancer by addressing pancreatitis". It is said that the Chronic Pancreatitis increases the risk two-fold compared to the general population in developing into Pancreatic Cancer.An Ayurvedic Treatment Protocol developed by Vaidya Balendu Prakash has been studied in 1656 patients of different variants of Pancreatitis till date has shown significant and sustainable results in prevention of Pancreatic Cancer by managing Pancreatitis and arresting its progression.
Later the session was led by Panel discussion by expert oncologists from different Cancer Hospitals in Mysuru –Dr. ANIL THOMAS, Chairman of Oncology and Surgical Oncologist, Preethi Centre for Oncology, Dr. RAVI KRISHNAPPA, Associate Professor and Surgical Oncologist and Dr. KIRAN P K, Assistant Professor, Department Of Medical Oncology – from JSS Medical College and Hospital,Dr. NAVEEN JAYARAM ANVEKAR, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Dr. VIDYA G, Associate Consultant - Radiation Oncologist - from Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Dr. ABHILASH G H, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Dr. SRINIVAS K G, Consultant Medical Oncologist – from Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology and Dr. SRINIDHI M, Assistant Professor, Surgical Oncologist, Mysore medical college and research institute, Dr. AVINASH CB, Consultant Medical Oncologist, ClearMedi Radiant has given their expert opinion and complete support in bringing this two medical systems together for providing the best care to the cancer patients Scientifically by understanding the need of Integration.
All panel members suggested unanimously the need of more Evidence based studies in Ayurveda for Cancer carewhich help for the integrative approach and the betterment of the society.The long proactive discussion for about 3 hours emphasized the role of Ayurvedic intervention more on improving the quality of life of cancer patients, to combat side effects or to enhance complianceof chemotherapy and radiotherapy inculcating psychotherapy in cancer care.The discussions opened the different areas of cancer treatments where Ayurveda can be an adjuvant therapy reducing the side effects of chemo and Radiations like – Nausea, Vomitingand Ulcers in the mouth and also incorporating Panchakarma purifications therapies and rejuvenation therapies for prevention of cancer and its recurrence too.
Sri. R. Mahesh, Director, Medical Education, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Gave the presidential remarks and also assured that further many such researches will be carried out in the institution to establish the cancer clinic more beneficial for the cancer patients.
